Race-ism and the City: The Young Du Bois and the Role of Place in Social Theory, 1893-1901
Like other late-19th-century social scientists, W. E. B. Du Bois emphasized a race's or nation's physical/social environment in tracing its development. The "sociology of place" trend as it was manifested in Du Bois' "The Philadelphia Negro" is examined.
