Zusammenfassung: | Airport leakage is a phenomenon where travelers avoid using the local airports in their regions, and use other (out-of-region) airports to take advantage of lower fares and more convenient airline services. This article examines whether the travelers in single-airport regions, the communities where no substitution airports are available within a reasonable range of distance, leak to out-of-region airports because of airfare savings. The results imply that travelers in single-airport regions do leak to substitution airports to save airfares, and that they may occasionally leak to airports that are nearly 250 miles away. |
