Scientific Meeting of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis

Information is presented on a recent talk given by Elisabeth Young-Bruehl concerning the historical development of the field of child abuse and neglect, and the relevance of the current system of classifications for it. Current thinking about child abuse in the categories of physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse is inadequate for such an historical perspective.
