Zusammenfassung:Creating special issues - on the military, community politics, Blacks in America, women, the social sciences in America, political behavior, and other topics - enabled SSQ to establish an interdisciplinary reputation while attracting major national authors and issue editors. Tolbert quotes Bonjean's paradox, i.e., that It is ironic that, seemingly contrary to the editor's original goals of moving the journal from a regional to a national stature, a topic that academics once regarded as only of regional importance became SSQ's major claim to national recognition.
