Zusammenfassung:An abstract of a study by E. A. Hines et al that evaluates the physiological indicators of heat stress and their association with seasonal infertility in first parity sows is presented. Results of the study indicate that thermal indices of heat stress during the wean-to-estrus-interval (WEI) do not fully explain decreased reproductive efficiency observed during seasonal infertility in P1 sows. Future investigations are needed to understand the underlying mechanisms of heat stress during the WEI transition.
