TYSON R. ROBERTS

The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists presents the Robert H Gibbs Jr Memorial Award annually to a citizen of a Western Hemisphere nation for an "outstanding body of published work in systematic ichthyology." The Award was established in Bob's honor by his wife Frigga and has been presented continuously since 1989. The 2017 recipient of the Robert H Gibbs Jr Memorial Award for Excellence in Systematic Ichthyology is Tyson R Roberts. A major theme in the life of Roberts is one of ichthyological exploration and natural history collection building. This includes expeditions to major and minor river drainages in 27 countries across South America, Africa, South and South East Asia, and Australasia, all of which resulted in specimens that have been deposited in globally important collections and made available to the ichthyological community for study.
