Zusammenfassung:Physical education teachers play a decisive role in the school environment, and mental illness may make it impossible to achieve efficiency in their social role, then the main objective of this study is to verify the presence of Burnout Syndrome in physical education teachers of public schools in Sergipe. For this, a sociodemographic survey and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were used, and for the analysis of the data collected, the Cronbach's alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of the inventory, whereas the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were applied to compare the variables. The presence of a moderate level of Burnout Syndrome in a sample of 164 physical education teachers was verified. The results showed significant differences (p≤0.05) in the Depersonalization dimension between the genderes (female, mean 13.18; male, mean 14.99) and time of practicing (more than 30 years, p=0.017). It is concluded that the sample did not present extreme cases of Burnout, but the identifiers found in the three dimensions point to a beginning of development of the syndrome.
