Zusammenfassung: | Although Dunaway's translation of Jean‐Louis Chrétien's Sous le regard de la Bible (Bayard, 2008) is part of Fordham's Perspectives in Continental Philosophy Series, the text itself is not a work of philosophy in any modern sense that would be differentiated methodologically from theology. It does not aim to advance a philosophy of religion, a phenomenology of religious experience, a deconstruction of Christianity, or any of the other standard fare of this series. Even the interdisciplinary dialogue between theology and philosophy that Chrétien develops in other works (including his other four books in English translation) hardly makes an appearance in this text. Here he writes almost nothing but theology and theologically. Dunaway's translation could thus help English‐speakers discover Chrétien's bold and unabashed theological voice. |
