The following paper is a guide for the nurse practitioner in the assessment and management of cognitive loss in multiple sclerosis. Early recognition and marshaling appropriate members of the health care team with the aim of tailored treatment is essential to preserving function, maintaining life tasks, and optimizing quality of life for those living with multiple sclerosis and cognitive challenges. •Assessment of MS cognitive impairment directs evidence-based therapies.•Measure of MS cognitive impairment has potential to change outcomes.•Cognitive restorative techniques reduce costs and improve quality of life.
