Gary responsds to the Peggy El-Mallakh's study "Doing My Best: Poverty and Self-Care Among Individuals With Schizophrenia and Diabetes Mellitus." Gary writes that, although the author made a compelling case about the lives of people with schizophrenia and diabetes, the author neglected to discuss the process of informed consent gathering, the methods of recruitment of the study subjects, the subjects' access to and quality of health care received and the social and economic benefits of work.
