Zusammenfassung: | The 2017 Alan C Purves Award Committee recognized Katherine K Frankel, of Boston University, as the recipient of this year's award for her article "The Intersection of Reading and Identity in High School Literacy Intervention Classes," which appeared in the August 2016 issue of Research in the Teaching of English (Volume 51, Number 1, pp. 37-59). The Alan C Purves Award is given annually to an article published in RTE that holds significant implications for informing classroom practice and is likely to have a great impact on instruction and classrooms. In this year's winning article, Frankel uses positioning theory to analyze the reading identities of two students in two different ninth-grade literacy intervention classes. Drawing on an emerging body of research on the role that identity plays in literacy development, she uses this analytic framework to illuminate how the subject positions made available to her participants in these intervention classes interact with the identities they import into the class context to contribute to different learning outcomes. |
