What safety professionals need to know about the theory of paradigm shift

By understanding the word paradigm and its original emphasis, safety practitioners can better understand the straight-jacket that currently confines safety management. Paradigms represent how scientists work, which problems they attempt to solve, which rules they apply, what tools they use to measure success and which language they speak. Unfortunately, safety's current paradigm only values compliance, rules and hardware. It does not and cannot value life.
