Inculturation and Adaptation in Japan before and after Vatican Council II

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who arrived in Japan in 1924, were typical of many dedicated American Catholic women of pre-Vatican II. Cultural relations between Catholic missionaries and the Japanese are discussed.
