Anabasine Toxicity from a Topical Folk Remedy

Tree tobacco is native to South America and Mexico. Toxicity from this plant is due mainly to anabasine, a nicotine-like alkaloid. Toxicity from exposure to anabasine is rare but has been reported before, usually in the context of ingestion due to misidentification of the plant.
