Zusammenfassung:This account of the development of family research and theory in Singapore identifies the salience of the research setting as an important influence on the research that is done; deals with the historical background of family studies; focusses on the period of consolidation from 1965 to 1979; discusses the major changes in direction and emphasis in family research in Singapore; and predicts future trends for research on family in Singapore. The rapid eco- nomic development of Singapore and the ethnic and cultural com- position of its population have caught the attention of the wider com- munity of family researchers. As the society continues to experience economic growth, the number of resident PhDs who engage in research on family continues to grow.
