Zusammenfassung:Lieb et al used nested, reverse-transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to analyze the prevalence of Borna disease virus (BDV) in samples of whole peripheral blood from 159 psychiatric patients. BDV may infect humans and cause psychiatric disorders, but the screening by nested reverse-transcriptase-PCR is not a reliable diagnostic method for identifying infected individuals.
