Zusammenfassung:In spite of the laudable efforts of the editor and authors, the book has a few rough edges: inadequate maps; long-winded chapters; occasional lack of sources; an infinite number of acronyms (although the list at the end of the book helps somewhat); frequent ambiguity as to whether an author is giving his own opinion or citing a source; and the assumption that readers are familiar with the geography, history, politics, ethnic groups and languages of the region, to name a few. Should donors invest in humanitarian assistance and sanctuary, which would postpone a permanent political solution and economic development, or should they insist on the massive return of the refugees to their countries of origin, which would have unknown political and humanitarian consequences? A third recurring theme involves the irreversible breakdown of kin-based social organization in the refugee camps.
