Zusammenfassung:Despite a ban by the Spanish Supreme Court, the Catalan regional government held a referendum on independence from Spain on 1 October. Around 90% of voters favored independence, but participation was only 43%. The proclamation of independence was followed by the forced administration by the headquarters. In a populist manner, an illusion of independence was fostered, which both exaggerated its own economic potency and tax outflows towards Madrid headquarters, and described the whereabouts in the EU as an independent country in a naïve manner as unproblematic.
