Festival Productions in Central Europe 2002

As has been the rule for several decades now, four major Central European festivals dominate the festival-scene. They do this, not only by presenting some of the best international talent, but also by creating some of the most innovative stagings of drama, dance, and music-theatre of the present times. Loney reports on a selection of this past summer's most impressive, or unusual, stagings--one each from Bayreuth and Bregenz, the only new major productions at either festival, followed by two from Munich and four from Salzburg.
