Zusammenfassung:Loney details the theater and opera presentations in Munich, Germany as well as in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria. The Munich Festival was initially created as a counterpoise to Richard Wagner's Bayreuth Festival in 1876, but is now making a departure of sorts, after a twelve-year tenure of Intendant Sir Peter Jonas. Max Reinhardt's Salzburg Festival, founded in 1920, is now on its 86th year. Meanwhile, Austria's other major summer opera and theater event, the Bregenz Festival, is celebrating 60 years, the same with the Edinburgh Festival. However, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 250th birthday is highlighted by staging all twenty-two of his operas in Vienna's three state opera houses, including the Staatsoper, the Volksoper, and the Theater-an-der-Wien.
