Josef Strzygowski (1862-1941)

Readers of this journal all know the name and hearsay about Josef Strzygowski, but it is probably safe to assume that very few have ever read much of anything from his extensive list of publications. This is the reason for presently publishing a translation of a programmatic methodological lecture referring to his predecessors in Vienna in clear terms.Since his work united the subjects of nationalism as well as Islamic art and other neglected subjects, he has already elicited an enormous secondary literature, some of which is listed here.
