Zusammenfassung: | Patricia G. Lange presents What Defines a Community in her YouTube video? asked a number of interview partners if YouTube was a "community" and why. Five days after posting the video, on October 9, 2007, 319,215 people watched the movie, 1247 commented on it, 242 named as favorites, and 8 YouTube members posted a video message as a commentary. It seems impossible to regard the film framed by these facts, which are still being constantly updated, as a singular work. In the end, the film itself is merely a source of inspiration, a source of impetus for a media network structure that presents itself as a community. The chat around the film testifies to the self-understanding of the members and also to the fun of the linguistic punch line: "If youtube is a community, then if you post a video and do not charge others to watch it, is that considered community service?"
