Journalists Face Escalating Danger

Although many war correspondents are caught helplessly in crossfire, mafia and political terrorists are often responsible for the targeted harassment, silencing and killing of journalists. Most murders remain "unsolved mysteries" due to "the failure of governments and investigating authorities to give proper priority to finding and prosecuting" the assassins, according to the International Federation of Journalists.
