Like many members of the general public faced with ill family members, I simply came to expect to see tubes and needles stuck into the hands and arms of those I loved every time we visited. Blood draws and infusions of chemotherapy rocked his world so much that he demanded the hospital schedule his appointments on specific days of the week.
