Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, The Recovery Revolution: The Battle Over Addiction Treatment in the United States by Claire D. Clark (see record 2017-17419-000). In this book, Clark provides a compelling narrative explaining the history and social-political context in which substance abuse treatment developed. The book presents detailed scholarship on the Therapeutic Community (TC) movement and describes societal and governmental responses to drugs over the last ten presidents. Although not about treatment per se, it is recommended reading for those in the field or anyone interested in this problem. This book is most appropriate as a reader for a graduate addictions class or for professionals. There is much to be learned related to the specific history of TCs, associated figures, our political history and governmental agencies, and the slow to emerge behavioral science on drug use.
