Zusammenfassung:Despite sharing the same cultural heritage and language, the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC) have coexisted on each side of the Taiwan Strait, with neither side subordinate to the other during the last five decades. Consequently, the "special state-to-state relationship" between the two sides is self-evident. However, Beijing still conducts cross-strait relations under obsolete concepts left over from the civil war of the 1940s.
