Zusammenfassung:Performance and reliability requirements are described for many different electronic systems, including the telephone network, a television set, air traffic control, cardiac pacemaker, and electronic engine control. In each instance, laboratory procedures specified to guarantee the stated levels of performance and reliability are described. In some cases, redundant equipment is needed to achieve the required standards for the system in operation. Typical testing involves operation of the system in a variety of environments. Components are subjected to extremes of heat and humidity. One manufacturer concluded that the field-proven products of major instrument and computer vendors should be preferred. ''New'' equipment, according to this opinion, almost always requires a long field shakedown phase.
