About Migration and Rururbanidad: Adaptation and Transformation of the City of Popayan Early Twenty-first Century

Rapid urban epansion is one of the distinctive features, most significant of the Latin American cities. The transition suffering societies going from a world dominated by rural dynamics to another immersed in urban areas, usually on the continent often eceed the adaptive capacity of the same. In these circumstances, it is common to find in Latin America a speed overwhelmingly urban growth rates, especially in recent decades; moreover quite marked concentration of urban population in major cities, ensuring that this process of concentration is given by as in almost all countries regardless of their level of development. In this sense, this article is responsible for presenting the most relevant aspects of urban concentration of Popayan, highlighting the space configuration leading elapsed this century; in which identified historical trends of settlement, the major migration flows to the city and sets out some of the main reasons that lead people to settle in the area rururban of it.
