IN MEMORIAM: EBERHARD GWINNER, 1938–2004

An obituary for Eberhard Gwinner who died on Sept 7, 2004 after a brief battle with cancer is presented. Gwinner provided the first empirical evidence of endogenous circannual rhythms in birds and demonstrated that different populations of migrants had unique signatures or patterns.
