Zusammenfassung:	The article reviews three studies of courtroom interaction: Magistrates' Justice by Carlen, Conviction by McBarnet and Order in Court by Atkinson and Drew. The article argues that the theoretical perspectives adopted by these writers are inappropriate for the analysis of day to day courtroom procedures and suggests that the writers, in different ways, all fail to achieve their stated objectives.
