Reflections on Pina Bausch's Istanbul Project

When choreographer Pina Bausch launched a project on Istanbul, many people felt proud that this important artist would reflect on their city and built high expectations about what was to come. What audiences expected from The Istanbul Project was a reflection from a great artist on a complex city that challenges them on a daily basis. Although the overall performance received generous and well-deserved applause for the uniqueness of Bausch's movement system, a wide range of audience members expressed strong reservations about the show.
