UNA REFLEXION FEMINISTA DE LA CIUDADANÍA

La ciudadanía ha devenido en la última década pasada es uno de los ejes de acción y reflexión del movimiento feminista y es al mismo tiempo una de las preocupaciones democráticas del fin de siglo, a niveles nacionales y, como nunca antes, en al ámbtto global. Constituye un pole importante para articular la larga lucha de las mujeres por la igualdad, aportando nuevos contenidos democráticos. Es también un eje significative para generar alianzas entre mujeres y con otras categorías y grupos sociales, tendientes a ampliar los límites de otras ciudadanías restringidas en razón de las múlttiples discriminaciones en nuestras sociedades. Es un terreno de disputa no solo entre sociedad civil y estado, sino también en la misma sociedad civil. Las teóricas feministas de la ciudadanía están complejizando y aportando a una teoría de la cludadanía que responda a las incongruencias, carencias y debilidades de la concepcion y de la práctica ciudadana, reconociendo la diferencia no sólo genérica sino entre las mismas majeres como posibilidades y obstáculos cludadanos a los que hay que potenclar o neutralizar. Over the course of the past decade, citizenship has become one of the axes of feminist action and reflection in Latin America, and, at the same time, it is at the core of democratic concerns at the national levels and, as never before, at the global level. Citizenship constitutes an important pole in women's long fight for equality, lending new democratic content to feminist debates. It also is a meaningful axis for generating alliances among women and between women and other social groups, with the aim of broadening the limits of citizenship restrained by the manifold discriminations in our societies. Citizenship is a terrain of dispute between civil society and the state, and also within civil society itself. Feminist theorists of citizenship are adding complexity and contributing to a theory of citizenship by pointing to incongruities and weaknesses in the concept and practice of citizenship, recognizing that differences - not only gender-based ones-but among women themselves, may present possibilities and obstacles which need to be enhanced or neutralized.
