The study applied the Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman correlation, and oneway ANOVA, considering statistical significance level at p<0.05. Results: There was no statistically significant correlation between the variables prostatic volume (PV) and IPSS score (p=0.2), as well as between the variables IPSS score and age (p=0.19). However, there was a statistically significant correlation between the variables age and PV (p=0.03 and rho=0.34). Conclusion: The IPSS showed no statistically significant correlation with the prostate volume estimated by ultrasonography or with the patient’s age, a suggestive fact that other variables may be involved in the outcome of this score.</description><identifier>ISSN: 1806-1222</identifier><identifier>EISSN: 1806-1230</identifier><identifier>DOI: 10.5020/3054</identifier><language>eng</language><publisher>Fortaleza: Universidade de Fortaleza - Centro de Ciências da Saúde</publisher><subject>Age ; Correlation analysis ; Kruskal-Wallis test ; Patients ; Prostate ; Statistical significance ; Urinary tract ; Urology</subject><ispartof>Revista brasileira em promoção da saúde = Brazilian journal in health promotion, 2015-01, Vol.28 (1), p.44</ispartof><rights>Copyright Universidade de Fortaleza - Centro de Ciências da Saúde 2015</rights><lds50>peer_reviewed</lds50><oa>free_for_read</oa><woscitedreferencessubscribed>false</woscitedreferencessubscribed></display><links><openurl>$$Topenurl_article</openurl><openurlfulltext>$$Topenurlfull_article</openurlfulltext><thumbnail>$$Tsyndetics_thumb_exl</thumbnail><link.rule.ids>314,780,784,864,27922,27923</link.rule.ids></links><search><creatorcontrib>Arlindo Monteiro De Carvalho Júnior</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>João Victor Costa Barreto Brígido</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Gustavo Ramalho Pessoa Negromonte</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Ygor Maia Derks</creatorcontrib><title>Correlation between age, intensity of prostate symptoms and ultrasonographic findings</title><title>Revista brasileira em promoção da saúde = Brazilian journal in health promotion</title><description>Objective: To investigate the association between the intensity of symptoms of lower urinary tract and the ultrasonographic findings in patients attending the urology outpatient clinic of a university hospital.
