Zusammenfassung:Mathematics and science educators need to engage with the practitioners and become activists for school reform. Here, Newman expresses his personal experience with an elementary textbook selection committee that he felt did not function appropriately and thus came to a poor decision. Furthermore, he cites that he do not feel that the teachers with which he had conflict do not care about the students. In fact, he believes they care greatly for the students and thus are passionate about their beliefs.
