Zusammenfassung: | God and money (or wealth) have always had a stormy relationship in human minds and hearts. Modern industrialized societies and cultures have tried to quell the storm by ignoring or expelling God, beginning with Adam Smith's (1965) critique of "monkish" theology bent on happiness in heaven rather than on earth, through Karl Marx's (1967) outright atheism, to contemporary economists, like John Galbraith (1975), for whom "theology" is used in reference to unverified opinions of fellow economists. |
