Good housekeeping: single women and global feminism in J.M. Coetzee's In the Heart of the Country

Many critics of In the Heart of the Country have commented on the feminist aspects of Magda's struggles, but none have et accounted for the role her status as a single woman plays in the novel. Magda's meditiations on single women's subject formation, Stone contends, are also medititations on the usefulness of Anglo-American gender politics for the anti-apartheid struggle.
