Zusammenfassung:In the early 1970's, the federal government attempted to bring the salaries of state judges within the control of then-existing wage freeze authority. Federal-state negotiation and litigation ensued in several instances before the general legislative authorization lapsed. This article analyzes the manner in and the authority by which the national government exercised this control, placing that analysis in the context of current trends in federalism.
