Culturally divergent ethnic categories and adolescents have much in common in the United States' society. Both are minorities excluded from the mainstream of American adult culture and each lacks adequate access to economic, political and social power. Each is struggling toward acceptance yet each has difficulty locating adequate and functional acculturative frames of reference for culturally integrated participation. Functional relations between simultaneous membership in culturally excluded minority worlds for different migratory generations and rela-
