Zusammenfassung: | In 1998, the US Congress expressed its growing concern about violations of religious freedom abroad by enacting the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (IRFA). To many of its critics, the law appears to be an attempt by the US to employ the blunt tool of sanctions to promote unilaterally a peculiarly American agenda. This article provides a preliminary discussion of some of the important criticisms that have been levied against IRFA and urges that there be a more informed discussion of the issues by both supporters and critics of the law. |
