Zusammenfassung:The plants which protect the liver contain variety of active constituents like flavonoids, glycosides, monoterpenes, coumarins, lignans, essential oil, carotenoids, organic acids, alkaloids and xanthene3. The lethal dose (LD50) was identified for METC .The acute toxicity studies were performed according to OECD guidelines No.420. [...]no lethality was observed at 2000mg/kg in rat therefore it was considered the cut off dose. CYP450 dependent mixed oxidase in endoplasmic reticulum activates metabolically to CCL4It forms trichloromethyl free radical (CCL3), which attached with cellular proteins and lipids in presence of oxygen to induce lipid peroxidation14.The formation of highly reactive tricolor free radical directly attacks the poly unsaturated fatty acids of ER and it cause over production of ALT, AST, and ALP, total bilirubin, directbilirubin and cholesterol15.Allthese leads to changes in endoplasmic reticulum structure, other membrane, metabolic enzymes activation, protein synthesis reduction and glucose-6 phosphatase activation16. The extracts also reveal the significant hepatoprotective activity in a dose dependent mode by the reducing the raised level of biochemical enzymes when they are treated with CCL4. [...]70% METC proven hepatoprotective activity may be due to presence of ß - Sitosterol, Stigmasterol, flavonoids and tannins.
