Zusammenfassung:In Vietnam, big corruption cases such as Tamexco (1996), Minh Phung-Epco (1997) and Tan Truong Sanh (1999) are etched on the popular psyche. Gainsborough reviews the literature on corruption, drawing predominantly on Chinese literature. Gainsborough argues that these corruption cases are best viewed as an attempt by the political center to discipline the lower levels of the party-state in a climate of increased decentralization. The Tamexco case is discussed in detail.
