In the chapter on 'The tale of Sir Tristram' Norris achieves the nearly impossible task of disentangling (and providing previously unedited relevant passages from) the complex tradition of French prose romance manuscripts Malory drew on; in addition, this chapter contains, as do previous ones, detailed examinations of the origins of several characters' names and useful pointers for further research.
