History, especially local medical history, led him to producing books, including the Sesquicentennial Scrapbook to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Newcastle School of Medicine and a publication celebrating the 100th anniversary of Newcastle's Fleming Memorial Hospital for Sick Children.
