The Crystal Structure of Bis(diethylammonium) Hexachloridoplumbate(IV) Derived From Powder Diffraction Data and its Relation to Structurally Related Hexachloridometallate Salts

Cl in hydrochloric acid solution. From the obtained crystalline powder a Rietveld refinement verified the structure of bis(diethylammonium) hexachloridoplumbate(IV) to be isotypic to the corresponding tin(IV) and platinum(IV) salts. The hexachloridoplumbate(IV) anions act as fourfold hydrogen bond acceptors and the diethylammonium cations as twofold hydrogen bond donors to form a two-dimensional framework perpendicular to the [−101] direction. Similar two-dimensional framework structures are well known for several hexahalogenidometallate salts, which are discussed. The infrared spectrum recorded at room temperature is provided and discussed on the basis of the structural data of the (C
