Zusammenfassung:Coating individual bacterial cells with insitu formed polypyrrole is described by J.S.C. Loo, B. Cao, J.R. Zhang, J.-J. Zhu etal. in their Communication on page10516ff. The coated polypyrrole can serve as a conductive medium as well as a protecting layer. Enhanced direct contact-based extracellular electron transfer and improved viability of bacterial cells are observed when polypyrrole-coated exoelectrogenic bacteria are employed as an anode in microbial fuel cells.
