Zusammenfassung:Corresponding author's email: boris_reidel@med.unc.edu Rationale: Although the detrimental effects of cigarette smoking on lung health have been thoroughly described, very little is known about the health effects of new and emerging tobacco products (NETPs), e.g. e-cigarettes and hookah. IS analysis from cigarette and e-cigarette users revealed an upregulation in established markers of cigarette smoke exposure and lung disease, such as aldehyde detoxifying enzymes (e.g. aldo-keto reductases), oxidative stress response proteins (e.g. thioredoxin) and MMP9.
