Zusammenfassung: | Procalcitonin (PCT) has emerged as a promising biomarker for the diagnosis of bacterial infections. [...]we sought to summarize the evidence of the efficacy and safety of PCT guidance compared to standard care on key health outcomes in adults with LRTIs in a clinical setting. Conclusions: This meta-analysis of RCTs shows that PCT guidance in clinical practice can be beneficial in reducing AB overuse (both AB initiation and AB exposure) among patients with LRTI, with no observed impact on length of hospital stay or mortality. |
