After adjusting for family member age, gender, relationship to patient, prior ICU experience, time from patient admission to survey administration, and patient mechanical ventilation use, the association between a patient alcohol or drug use disorder and family symptoms of an anxiety disorder (OR 3.07; 95% CI: 1.31-7.35) and PTSD symptoms of intrusion (OR 3.62; 95% CI: 1.56-8.69) persisted.
