Acknowledging our vulnerabilities

On behalf of the Illinois Supreme Court, I am pleased to congratulate the The Judges' Journal of American Bar Association for its bold recognition of the issues surrounding the impaired lawyer. In addressing the disciplinary caseload, we at the court see the extreme cases-those where an addiction or other mental illness moves a once upstanding, contributing member of the profession to do things he or she would never have contemplated before disease took hold.
