Zusammenfassung: | Jump to 1000 nm! In this picture, the effect of heteroatoms in 10‐heterocorroles, heteroatom‐containing porphyrin analogs, on their absorption wavelengths is illustrated. As compared to several other elements incorporated into the 10‐heterocorrole skeleton, silicon is powerful enough to push the absorption band into the near‐infrared (NIR) region through σ*–π* conjugation. NIR absorption and emission dyes are promising materials for applications in bioimaging, photodynamic therapy, and solar energy conversion. For more information, see the Communication by H. Omori, S.
